One-Handed Kakeya and Powerful Paper Rolls
This work was selected for the 32nd Kamiwaza Grand Prize Competition. The following outlines the concept of the work.
A light, soft paper roll appears to lift a seemingly heavy one-handed kakeya (wooden mallet) from below. The work challenges gravity and deceives the viewer’s eye, creating a surreal, gravity-defying effect.
Realistic textures were carefully crafted and applied to each component, with the design modeled after the dimensions of the actual object. This enhances the sense of realism while heightening the mysterious, gravity-defying effect.
Materials used include superfine paper, glossy paper, large drawing paper, and paper cat litter.
